Nestled
in the Heart of the Kootenays is Cranbrook, BC, surrounded
by mountains yet it has the most sunshine than any
other city in British Columbia. Cranbrook British
Columbia is located in the southeast par of BC, close
to the Alberta and USA borders. To the west of the
city, there is an amazing view of the Purcell Mountains
and to the north and east, a spectacular view of
the Rockies .
Cranbrooks
population is close to 19,000 in the city and close
to the same in the city's surrounding area. Cranbrooks
visitors can enjoy the many attractions. During the
winter months, visitors can enjoy some of Canada
's greatest ski resorts in the area, which include;
Kimberley, Banff, Panorama, Fernie, and Lake Louise
. In the summer months, Cranbrook and surrounding
areas offer many things to do such as camping, golfing,
hiking, biking, and many tourist attractions.
In
Cranbrook, there are many amenities. There is a Community
College, 14 public schools, senior citizens homes,
A Rec Plex with a swimming pool and water slides,
arenas, curling rink, parks, golf courses, performing
arts theatre, library, 2 radio stations, 2 shopping
centers, campgrounds, railway museum, and so much
more.
Cranbrook
originated from a retired Colonel James Baker, who
named this area after his ancestral home in Cranbrook,
Kent, England . In 1860, Wildhorse Creek brought
pioneers and minors into the area. In 1898, the Canadian
Pacific Railways was in favor of Cranbrook being
the principle community, bypassing Fort Steele. Today
many tourists still visit Fort Steele Heritage town,
just minutes from Cranbrook .
